My Ocean Adventure Tour by Matt

After going to Zoobic Safari on the same day, we went to Ocean Adventure to continue our tour.

Ocean adventure is located at Camayan Wharf, West Ilanin Forest Area. Looking through google map Ocean Adventure was at the west of Zoobic Safari. It is about 10 to 15 minutes ride from Zoobic. We were able to witness sea lion and dolphin for the first time performing their amazing moves. Actually by simply seeing those personally were already amazing.

Going to Ocean Adventure is not that easy because there is no public transportation except for Taxi that can pass through its vicinity. In our case we hired a Taxi that we utilized for the whole day trip and it cost us about P2900. One thing I noticed about their transportation fare was much higher than in Manila.

Presentation schedule was distributed to us upon entering the place. During that time we were able to attend the Sea Lion Marine Patrol. The whole presentation was about skills demonstration of the sea lion, and how to take good care of the ocean. The sea lion showed to the audience about the proper segregation of waste. The host even mentioned about “Reduce, Re-use, and Re-cycle which I heard the first time on Bob the Builder. I didn’t know that seal and sea lion have difference in looks and movement until it was demonstrated to us by the sea lion itself.

The next presentation was Walk on the Wild. The presentation was basically about surviving on the wild. We were amazed when one of the Aeta demonstrated on how to create fire using only the jungle bolo and bamboo.

The last presentation was the dolphin and false killer whale show. I did not believe when the host tell something about the ability of the dolphin to walk on the water but we saw it. My whole family were very happy with these once in a lifetime experience. We took pictures of almost all the animals because we may never know when we got older those animals would be extinct for some reasons.

The Zoobic safari adventure consumed four hours so if you’ll combine it with Ocean Adventure activities which would last also for four hours your whole day would be consumed.

During that time Ocean Adventure Entrance Rates are:

Adult = P500

Child = P420

Senior citizen = P400

Note: This is for general admission there are other optional ocean adventure rates when you get inside the park.

Zoobic Safari Experience by Matt

Last June 18 – 19,2010 my family went to Subic, Zambales to be able witness and experience their very famous Zoobic Safari and Ocean adventure. And primarily to have some bonding moments since it’s been a year when we had done it during our three day trip to Bohol and Cebu.

Zoo activities range from close encounter with animals, watching Aeta’s thanks giving dance showing some of their skills in hunting and animal presentation. Serpentarium was also present as well as
Croco-loco where lots of crocodiles are just few feet apart from your shoes. Ostrich and pot bellied pig are just roaming around the Savannah. There was also an animal museum where skeleton remains were preserved.

We spent almost half of the day to take part in the Zoo activities. We had some unforgettable moments like feeding the baby tiger. My wife fed the bearcat with banana. I together with my son fed the birds at the palm of our hands. Feed the goat and one hump camel. We also experienced the feel of being inside a cage with tigers outside few inches apart from us. The whole experience was a combined fun, exciting, suspense and breathtaking. I never thought in my lifetime that I’m going to milk fed a two year old tiger which was much bigger than the whole family combined. During that time I’m holding my breath and pretend to smile even though deep inside I’m very nervous.

During our trip the entrance rates are:

Adult = P449

Children 4 feet below =P349

Souvenir picture = P295 each (this is very expensive)

Feeding the bearcat = 10 pesos each

Feeding the Birds = 10 pesos per cup of feeds

Feeding the Goat/sheep = P25

Dressed chicken for the tiger = P200

Safari Train ride = P50 per pax

Inside the Tiger Safari

We stayed at the Aotriz Apartment = P950 per 24hours stay.

Father’s Day card from my four year old son

Father’s Day card given to me by my four year old son

Front page made from different water colors

Dear Daddy,

Happy father’s day
I love you

Love,
Matt

Happy father’s day to all the Daddy, Tatay, Itay, Papa in the world.

Matt’s vacation to Bohol Day one

My family were from Manila going to Bohol was our first time to explore the southern part of the Philippines., It’s been a year since my family had gone to Bohol and I’ve thought that sharing our tour would also make you decide to explore the beautiful islands of the Philippines. Our first stop was

The Blood Compact Site

Blood Compact Site is located in the barangay Bool, Tagbilaran City, Bohol Philippines. The bohol Blood compact sculpture was made by the National artist Napoleon Abueva, a Boholano himself. It is placed on an open and raised dais portraying five (5) life-sized images of men gathered around the table with Legazpi and Sikatuna supposedly making a toast.

Sikatuna-Legaspi blood compact is considered as the first treaty of friendship based on respect and equality. This event is commonly known as “sandugo” or in English term “blood compact”

The Chocolate Hills

The Chocolate Hills  are Probably Bohol’s most famous tourist attraction. The hills, which looks like giant mole hill, are considered unusual geological formation that consists of at least 1,268 individual mounds that are scattered throughout the municipalities of Carmen, Batuan, and Sagbayan. The hills range from 30 to 50 meters high and are covered with green grass which turns to brown during dry season, making them look like chocolate mounds. Legend has it that hils came into existence when two giants threw stones and sand at each other in a fight lasted for days. when they were finally exhausted, they made friends and left the island, but left behind the mess they made.

Our Third Stop was with the Philippines Tarsier (scientific name: Tarsius syrichta) is very small animal. In fact it is one of the smallest known primates, it is no larger than an adult men’s hand. Mostly active at night. It’s main diet is insects. According to our tour guide Tarsiers were compared to six different animals:

1. Bat: being nocturnal

2. Frog: because of the looks of it’s hand and feet

3. Owl: because of it’s big eyes

4. Koala bear: being insectivores

5. Rat: because tarsier has a long hairless tail

As told also by our tour guide tarsier’s brain is smaller than their eyes and the top part of their head is not protected by bones that is why they can’t be touch. Do you wonder why tarsiers can only be found in Bohol? it is because tarsier tends to be homesick and most likely if they were homesick they resort to suicide by simply bumping their head on tree branches, and for sure they will die because of it.

Next is Rio Verde Floating Restaurant located in Loboc. Loboc is a 5th class municipality in the province of Bohol, Philippines. It is mere 24 km away from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital of Bohol. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 16,299 people. It is the music capital of Bohol. Loboc known for its Floating restaurants along the scenic and winding Loboc River.  We’ve taken our lunch in this floating restaurant.

During our ride most of the passengers were Korean and Japanese Nationalities.

We were able to get along with the Ati Tribe near the river side of Loboc. The Ati tribe contribute to the amusement of the tourist because of their suit and their exotic dance steps.

During our travel to Bohol we were able to see the Philippines longest and probably the heaviest python its name is Proni which has a length of 24 feet  and 200 kilos in weight. It’s main diet was a huge chicken and sometimes the owner feed the python with a piglet. I would love to touch it’s skin  but my 3 year old son does not allow us to be near it. Base on the information the Python was found by a women 11 years ago, during that time it is only five feet long.

In the afternoon we were able to get inside the Baclayon Church base on what our tour guide have said it is the second oldest church here in the Philippines. By the way the oldest was San Agustin Church located inside the vicinity of Intramuros, Manila. Picture taking was not allowed on its attic because you can see there the “soutane” worn by priest during the spanish times which contains pure gold. It is our first time in this church so we do make a wish.

Our last stop during our day 1 tour was Soledad Suite. Located at Lou Square, J.C. Borja cnr M. Parras Sts., Tagbilaran City, Philippines. It would only take five minutes ride from Tagbilaran Airport. By the way our tour guide was accredited by Philippine Tourism Authority. Hope you enjoy reading this article. I’ll be posting our day 2 and day 3 tour soon.

Thoughts to ponder during the Lenten season

I came across the internet looking for a video on youtube about the passion of christ and luckily I bumped on this video about a bridge master / father who will make the hardest decision of his life where in he has to choose, saving the life of his only son or to save the lives of many people.

If you were on his foot what would you do?. With this I would like to share to you this verse in the Bible.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
