I wanted to share the steps how I was able to migrate hosting from GoDaddy to Hostgator without downtime.
But before that you can read the reason why I transfer from GoDaddy to Hostgator. If you are not techie enough, the experts from Hostgator will take care of everything for you. All you need to do is entrust them with your personal account including username and password from your current hosting provider. This procedure is also applicable to other hosting providers.
Here are the 6 easy steps:
Step1. Go to HostGator then choose and purchase the hosting package that you think suit to your site’s needs.
Step2. On the transfer form choose the type of account you bought with HostGator. Then, fill up the necessary information needed on the migration form provided for old hosting and HostGator new hosting.
Step3. Wait for the confirmation email which will be coming from the migration agent-in-charge of the transfer.
Step4. Sit back and relax.
Usually, it would take 24 to 48 hours to complete the migration. Afterward, an email from HostGator will inform you about the success of the transfer. During the migration process, it would be better not to update your site as the changes will not be reflected in your new HostGator host.
Step5. Update the nameservers on your domain which can be found on the email sent by hostgator.
Step6. Monitor your site. At this time do not delete your previous hosting account for safety purposes.
If you still have unused hosting months with your previous provider. I think it is possible to request a refund.
There you go guys. Godaddy to Hostgator hosting transfer without downtime.
