When I was still working in a multinational manufacturing company as an engineer, I have this dream of getting a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. I thought that after completing the program there will be numerous doors of opportunities that will open internally, and externally.
Also, I will have the so-called knowledge when it comes to how the different departments run to keep the whole company at its optimal and cohesive state. More importantly, it inspires me to take up the MBA degree because I know it will also help me run the department that I am handling efficiently. This is in terms of leadership, communication skills, and time management.
As I have mentioned, I am on the manufacturing side of my company. Back in college, I took up engineering. With this, I am not familiar with how the Marketing department, Finance, Information and Technology, and Human Resources department works. But taking up the degree helps me get a good grasp of their functions.
On the external side, having an MBA degree helps me to expand my network. I get to meet hundreds of people who work in different sectors. For example, during the 2-year program, I meet people who are working in the Business Process Outsourcing industry, telecom industry, Accounting firms, and government. In addition, I get to have acquaintances in property management, health sectors, education, and also in engineering.
After years of dreaming, finally, I started to take action. I decided to take up MBA entrance exam or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) in one of the best graduate schools in the Philippines. Luckily, I was able to pass the admission exam with a rating of 88%. I don’t know if my rating is high. But I am still thankful that I got accepted into the program.
After two years of juggling my time for work, study, and have quality time with my family. I was able to pass the business case defense without much problem. As a result, I am able to complete my MBA degree yehey!!! I would say that the 2 years that I have spent in the program are worth it. I was able to get out of my comfort zone, conquer my fears, and meet new people. Lastly, along the way, I acquire new friends and have learned new stuff.
In the United States, OHIO University offers an online MBA finance program. If you want to take up an MBA program but somehow find it difficult to deal with work and go to school routine for the span of 2 years. I suggest that you should take a look at the OHIO University’s offering.
The school is ranked in the top 2 percent of American public universities by US News and World Report. Other notable publications such as Princeton Review’s Best Colleges, Peterson’s Guide to Competitive Colleges, and Fortune have honored the University in their own different ways.
Conclusion
Taking up MBA is difficult because you need to spend additional years in school. This is on top of your 4-year bachelor’s degree. However, it is worth it because the scope of your knowledge will become broader. For example, if you are in the engineering field. Normally, you will have very little knowledge of how the different departments of your company work because you are always on the technical side of your company.
Having an MBA degree will help you fill that knowledge gap. It will also help to prepare you to handle management positions where your job scope will be broader. Such as handling numerous stuff, budget allocation, planning, and project management. So if you have extra time, having an MBA degree is highly recommended.
